"Hope Dies Last"

Nadav Goldstein Almog was born on December 3, 1974, in Kfar Aza.

He was married to Chen, and they had four children: Yam, 20 years old; Agam, 18 years old;

Gal, 11 years old; and Tal, 9 years old.

An economist, he was the CEO of Kfarit Israel and in recent years held the position of VP of Business Development, Innovation, and Sustainability.

He was considered brilliant and respected by research institutes in Israel and around the world in the field of plastics. Humbly and professionally, he mentored students, guided and coached struggling youth, volunteered with the "Acharai" organization, and was deeply involved in the community life of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, especially in the fields of education and economics.

An athlete in every vein of his soul, he was the national champion in the half Ironman competition in April 2022 in the 44-49 age group.

Every day, early in the morning and at the end of the day, he went out to train according to a structured plan, both in Israel and abroad, during extreme heat and cold. He practically carried out a sequence of 814 days of training, which allowed him to achieve the status of a long-distance endurance athlete. On July 21, 2023, he was hit by a truck while riding his bike. He was hospitalized with severe injuries, and the first thing he did when he opened his eyes after the initial surgery was to make a "V" sign with his fingers and say, "Hope dies last".

With teeth grinding and severe pain, he transitioned to home rehabilitation, and on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, he entered his home for the first time after three months of rehabilitation without a walker.

On the evening of Simchat Torah, during the Black Sabbath of October 7, 2023, Nadav and his eldest daughter Yam were murdered in the shelter of their home. Chen, Agam, Gal, and Tal were kidnapped to Gaza and released from Hamas captivity after 51 days.

In a book he wrote after the competition in Utah, he wrote: "In long-distance endurance sports, in training and competition, there is no one to hide behind. You are there alone, vulnerable, exposed, dependent on yourself. I want to compete at the edge. At the finish line, I will feel that I have exhausted every nerve, muscle, and ligament, every whisper of oxygen, every gram of glycogen or fat or sodium. The best, I want something that matches my physical ability. I am focusing on the half Ironman; I have a passion for this competition. I enjoy the duration, the challenge. I decided to specialize, and now I need to match my ability. I want to challenge the soul, the mental strength."
